Holiday sketches

Hi guys! I've been neglecting this blog since my uni term finished, but I certainly haven't been resting on my laurels: I've been continuing to work on my webcomic, Mudskipper (which celebrated its first anniversary on the 10th of August and is about to start its third chapter) and, of course, I've been filling several sketchbooks.

The highlight of those sketchbooks has been the mini-holiday to the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall I went on between the 24th and 27th of August, where I did a TON of sketching, particularly in watercolour. Click Read More to see them, including some photo-to-sketch comparisons!

Sometime after this post, I'll make another compiling the best of my sketchbooks from May, June, July and August, so stay tuned for that too.

I saw lots of interesting place names on the way, including Millpool and... well... this. Also on this page is a little study of the view from Cornwall Services.

My mum and I stayed in a cottage in Porthallow which was so cosy with such economical use of space; it's basically one room with a bed on a mezzanine level (seen here), a sofa that can fold out into a second bed, and a toilet (that's the door in this picture). It might be an interesting setting for a story...

These two drawings are of views from The Old Lifeboat House restaurant in a town called Coverack, where I also did some people-watching:

At Mullion Meadows Craft Centre I bought some Kuretake Zig pens and messed around with them while looking at the beautiful Mullion Cove!

I was lucky enough that my last full day in Porthallow was sunny. The photo doesn't do it justice, but the sea was actually rainbow that day, which I really enjoyed painting! (This, like most of these sketches, was done with Derwent Inktense Pencils.)

My mum and I visited the Minack Theatre, which is beautiful in itself, but I would recommend it just for the views. I was especially captivated by a little inlet tucked away at the back - so turquoise!!!
